Approval of previous minutes
The minutes of 2nd September were approved by the group.
Matters arising from previous minutes
- Advanced care planning information session on 21st October– the session was well received although the numbers attending were less than hoped.
- The Q&A session and input from AGE Uk was helpful. Thanks to Dr Smith for presenting
PPG issues
- Triage and appointment system feedback – some specific examples and experiences were discussed to aid the ongoing monitoring of the current econsult arrangements. PPG views will be sought when the current system is formally reviewed next year.
- Dates of meetings for 2025 – quarterly meetings were agreed ( see dates below). Adhoc meetings and patient information sessions will sit alongside.
- Ideas for patient information sessions – the following suggestions were made – Diabetes, Autism, HRT/women’s health, understanding Secondary Cancer . Planning for sessions will be discussed at the next meeting with a view to providing something in the Spring – early Autumn period.
Courtside Issues
- Flu/Covid vaccination outcomes – although the clinics were busy, the numbers taking up the vaccinations at the surgery were down on last time. As there is a cost attached to each vaccine , the number of DNAs was very disappointing and reducing the order for future campaigns may be necessary.
The numbers of vaccines given are shown below:
- Covid: 2879
- Flu (65+ years): 2205
- Flu 18-64 years): 886
- Flu (2-3 years): 175
Total: 6145
It was agreed that some publicity at invitation stage about the cost to the practice might be helpful, to ensure better take-up and matches the numbers of vaccinations ordered more closely.
Car parking changes
- The proposals for the introduction of car parking charges for the local South Glos car parks was discussed.
- The changes to the Kennedy Way car park, next to the surgery, remaining as long stay but with a high minimum charge and the impact of that on patients was of concern.
- Ellie gave details of the recent meeting with South Glos and the options presented for both patients and staff.
- Decisions still needed to be made and various options to control parking in the private surgery car park are being considered.
- The group were particularly keen to ensure that adequate facilities were provided for disabled patients if the surgery car park was full.
- The council consultation closes on 19th December and Ellie will respond for the Surgery and Jean will respond on behalf of the PPG.
Staffing Update
- Dr Appleton is retiring in March and a new GP has been appointed.
- Maternity leave cover for Dr Hawkins from January is proving difficult to find.
- 2 paramedics will be starting next year to pick up the duties previously provided by advance practitioner Clair Burrell.
Date of Next Meeting
Jean wished everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
- Subsequent meetings: 7th July, 6th October (including AGM), 15th December.
