Weight Loss Support
The roll out of Mounjaro® (Tirzepatide) weight loss injections in General Practice will be phased in over several years.
NHSE has restricted phase 1 to patients meeting the following eligibility criteria below.

BMI of 40 or above (or 37.5 for patients of South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean ethnic backgrounds). Plus four weight-related health conditions including:
- High blood pressure
- Raised cholesterol
- Obstruction Sleep Apnoea
- Cardiovascular disease
- Type 2 Diabetes
Patients will also need to attend a 10-month programme of ‘wrap around care’ to help with nutrition and lifestyle.
- We will be contacting eligible patients directly to offer the initiation of Mounjaro®.
- Please do not contact the practice to request Mounjaro we will contact you if you are eligible.
- If you do not fit this eligibility for Mounjaro® you may be eligible for alternative weight loss services, see below.
Oviva referral
This is an option if you are over 18 years and have:
• a BMI of 35 or more with other health conditions which could improve through weight loss or
• a BMI of more than 40 with or without any other health conditions
(Patients of black African or Caribbean and South Asian origin are accepted with a BMI 2.5 less than those quoted above)
You will also need to have been engaged in community and primary care weight management and dietician-led service over a 2-year period, this can include Weightwatchers, Slimming on Referral, LifeShape Programme (this requirement is excepted if BMI is 50 or more).

There are various options for self-care and other weight loss services where you can self-refer through South Glos One You.

Exercise referral scheme
This is delivered by the Active Centres in South Gloucestershire. For further information please visit the Active Centres website. There is eligibility criteria for this.
